What are some interesting mission statements or value statements of some of the companies in your industry? What do their statements reveal about them?
1.The first company I want to write about is ExxonMobil. ExxonMobil is the largest international company selling oil and gas in the energy industry. It’s mission statement is “Taking on the world’s toughest energy challenges.” I think this mission statement concerns about the most two challenging problems in the energy industry, which are the running out of oil and the production safety. In “The Economist” magazine, there is an article introducing ExxonMobil’s newest technology in drilling progress called hydraulic fracturing. It also says that the gas provided by the new technology could meet the energy needs of United States for more than 100 years. And thanks for the new technology, the production process becomes more safely in the well. In conclusion, I think the mission statement of ExxonMobil reveals that ExxonMobil focuses more on the innovations of technology and the social responsibilities.
2.Chevron Corporation is the second largest energy company in the United States. It’s mission statement is “The world needs more than oil.” After reading this, everyone would wonder, besides oil, what does the world need? I would say, ingenuity. “At Chevron, our businesses work in concert to provide the energy that drives human progress.” (Chevron’s Website)So, Chevron is aimed at providing people a more creative, advanced lifestyle. The same as ExxonMobil, Chevron also pays a lot of attention to innovative production. Meanwhile, Chevron has a new concept, human energy. From my perspective, human energy is the same as innovation. As it mentioned in the website, the power of human energy is the most abundant supply we have. By developing human energy, Chevron, as well as other energy companies, could find newer, smarter, cleaner ways to power the world.(Chevron’s Website)
In all, I found that all the companies demonstrate a lot about the new, clean, advanced technologies in their production on their websites. I suppose this phenomenon is just the reflection of the social responsibility.

The mission statements released by the major energy companies are relevant to the ethics challenges relevant to our industry. "Taking on the world's toughest energy challenges" is the statement released by Exxon. Unlike other industries in the economy, the energy industry is very responsible for the preservation of the environments they operate in. In my most recent blog post I referred to the BP OIl Spill and the detrimental effects it had on the habitat of the Gulf of Mexico. When energy companies screw up, the effects can be detrimental to the environment and innocent lives across the world. If they run unethical business and intend on making short-term profits without preserving the environment, they will create immense problems for the global society. When analyzing the firms in our industry, as a group we need to find out which companies take the strongest stance of the preservation of our environment. Those companies wil be the most successful going forward in our modern economy. Energy companies who help to preserve the global environment will be the most profitable and most reliable.
